Primary 7/6H

Term 3

Fairtrade

P7/6H have had a very busy but enjoyable term. Our class topic ‘Fairtrade’ has allowed us to learn a lot of important information and take part in interesting activities.

We decided to organise and run a ‘Fairtrade Tuck Shop’ during Fairtrade Fortnight.

The Tuck Shop was a great success! The children in our school enjoyed eating different TASTY Fairtrade food and we think we have encouraged them to buy Fairtrade in the future.

We raised over £200 for Yorkhill Hospital, Schiehallion Ward.

Fist Full Of Money Clip Art      Finance Fortnight Fist Full Of Money Clip Art

5th – 15th January 2010

Bridge of Allan Primary School held Finance Fortnight, an enterprise which allows children to learn about the concept of money and its uses.

P7/6H were focusing on Needs and Wants and the idea that sometimes we may want something but do we actually need it to survive?

What are needs and wants?

Together we came up with definitions to explain what they are.

In our groups we had to decide whether a number of items were a need or a want.  The items ranged from watches, mobile phones, houses to water.

We discussed and learnt about the different ways money can be acquired and also lost.  We used these ideas to create ‘Money Board Games’.  We used ideas from popular board games such as Monopoly such as ‘Receive £10 pocket money when you pass go’.

Planning our designs

A money board game on the TV show ‘Friends’.

This design was a car racing track!

The results were Fantastic!

We decided to invite our parents in to have a look at everything we achieved throughout Finance Fortnight.

They enjoyed playing our board games and loved the creative piggy banks we made.

We were able to explain why it is important to save money. Now we can take our banks home and save up for something special.

Making our Piggy Banks – we were very creative with our designs!
